Welcome to the
Central Florida Hunting Retriever Club
The CFHRC is sanctioned by the United Kennel Club, Inc. (UKC) and the Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. (HRC).
We focus on having fun and training our retrievers to participate in realistic hunt tests and to be a better hunting partner. We’re a family oriented club and welcome new members. The club gathers once per month in the Central Florida area (west of Orlando) for training sessions.
In December we host a Hunt Test, and in the fall and spring host Mock (practice) tests and hold 1-2 seminars each year. Perhaps most importantly, we put you in touch with good people who love retrievers. Look over the information we have provided and come visit one of our meetings. If you have any questions, please email us.
See you in the field!
It is with deep sadness that we post the passing of one of our founding members, Bill Dumas. Bill was an integral part of CFHRC and will be missed by many.
Bill was born in Spearman, Texas on February 19, 1929. He passed away August 21, 2016 at home under the care of Hospice, surrounded by his loved ones. He served honorably in the US Airforce.
Bill started CFHRC in the fall of 1991 using his personal funds for the HRC/UKC national charter. The preliminary hunt was held May 10, 1992. Bill was the moving force behind starting the Calusa HRC club in Ft Meyers, the Treasure Coast club in Vero, and Northeast Florida HRC club in Jacksonville.
Bill was so happy to see CFHRC grow, and he loved watching people enjoy and train their dogs. Bill was a licensed HRC Judge, and he always judged the dog, not the handler.
Bill and Marilyn attended every HRC national meeting from 1993 to 2015. And Bill and Marilyn were the second couple to be awarded lifetime membership in the National HRC.
Bill trained his Golden Retriever Morninglo Tallahassee Lassie (Tally) to a HRCH, UH & 500 points, along with AKC MH. He accumulated several boxes of ribbons earned by his other dogs; Alex, Sunny, Barney, Chipper & Magic.
Bill and Marilyn owned a successful sewing machine and vacuum store in Ocala (Dumas Sew & Vac) for 35 years.
A funeral service will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 30 at 1:30pm.
